Character Information:
Character Name: Jacen Solo
Age: 19
Canon: Star Wars (Extended Universe)
Appearance: Obviously, Jacen's most striking feature would be his eyes, which are the color of a fine Corellian brandy. In fact, this is reinforced so much in canon, that it is possible that even looking at Jacen Solo for thirty seconds dead in the eyes would be enough to render any Corellian worth their spice incredibly thirsty without really knowing why. While this has not proven to be a specifically useful skill as of yet, who knows what the future may bring. Either way, his liquidy eyes are his calling cardwhenever Kevin J. Anderson is near.
Like both his parents, he also has dark brown hair. He stands at approximately 5'9". And he can knock out the patented Solo grin with the best of them. And obviously, he's a hottie. Look at his parents.
Personality: The eldest Solo boy is.... complicated. DON'T YOU GIVE ME THAT 'STOP USING PERSONALITY CLICHES ON YOUR APP' stare. He really is. Which is a combination of lack of consistency in canon (hey, you try having a consistently developed personality through 100+ works by varying authors) and his own... really messed up life.
Jacen was always the guy living five steps in the future, so ready for the next big thing that he rushed through the present to get to it at lightspeed. While his sister was able to plan things out and strategize, Jacen was more prone to react.
This tendency towards cocky overeagerness, however, has cooled somewhat with experience, and now he tends to overcompensate wildly in the opposite direction sometimes. He often internalizes, and spends a lot of his time philosophizing - particularly on the nature of the Force itself, and on violence, war, and peace and the Jedi's role in all those things. He spends a lot of time with his Deep Thoughts, possibly because he doesn't have a Girlfriend.
Jacen and his siblings had a lot of expectations thrust on them at birth, as the children of famous war heroes (and the new Chief of State of the entire New Republic). Not to mention that whole Darth Grandpa/Skywalker lineage thing. Considering all the pressure put on him to grow up and be a hero, or the fear people had of him turning into Darth Vader 2.0, he's handled the situation generally pretty gracefully. Probably because even the Big Legendary People in his family are... all pretty solidly grounded.
In his youth, Jacen showed a lot of symptoms of basically having... ADHD. Look, I'm not kidding. 8| He had a really difficult time focusing, and tended towards being disorganized and scatterbrained. His head was often off in the clouds thinking about his creature collections, or he would burst out with inappropriately timed jokes in perilous situations. Unlike his sister Jaina who could toil for hours on one machine, he was always up and moving and preferred being active or exploring. Despite outer appearances, he does possess a deeply thoughtful and intelligent nature, and as his Jedi focus matured, it came to help him with these aspects of his personality.
He's also Han Solo's son, and no amount of Jedi reserve will ever drain that cocky Solo nature entirely. He's almost always ready with a smile and an attitude - or at least was until the whole little-brother-dying-and-then-being-tortured thing which has left him a little grimmer. 8( Still, he tends to be pretty unwaveringly optimistic, almost to the point of naivete, and that's one of the things that drives his philosophical quest to understand the Force: the belief that he can learn something new about it that no one else has ever been able to grasp. This probably sounds like a little arrogant too. Well, guess what?
It is.
Some of this probably comes from the fact that until the Vong War, his family was pretty much... an untouchable force of nature that influenced the galaxy on a grand scale. I mean, his dad was freaking Han Solo, his mother ran the new government, his uncle was the most powerful Jedi Master in the galaxy, et cetera et cetera. So he inherited a little bit of that aura of untouchability just from his upbringing.
He also has an ingrained sense of Duty before Self, because his parents spent so much of his childhood... putting their galactic service in front of their own family. So he sees that as the Right Thing to Do, but at the same time, there's also an underlying current of some bitterness in their self-sacrifice. Hardly seeing his parents wasn't really the ideal childhood.
While Jaina took after their father and his mechanical aptitude and piloting skills, Jacen has a lot more in common with his mother, and has a tighter bond to her. There's something of a block between him and his Dad, that has something to do with Jacen's interest in and experiences with the Force, which remain something entirely untouchable to Han.
His connection to his twin sister Jaina has also been a huge influence on his life, because despite being a big celebrity from the day he was born, he's never really had to deal with feeling entirely isolated and alone. Jaina's always been there. Their personalities balance each other out in a lot of ways, so they've always sort of been the ballast to keep each other safe and sane. Which leads to a sort of disruption of that inner balance after Anakin's death, when it's thought Jacen is dead as well. Jaina's stint with the dark side, and Jacen's crazy experiences with Vergere and the Vong are a pretty big hurdle for the two to get over in order to... reconnect meaningfully and understand each other completely again. They're trying, but she's not particularly open to his preaching about the necessity of balance. He's also incredibly overprotective of her where men are involved gtfo kyp & jag.
Jacen makes an interesting comment to Jaina about how 'all he knows how to be is a Jedi', which is pretty definitive to his character as well. His desire to be a Jedi Master has shaped the entire course of his life, and he's never expressed any interest in... not doing it. A lot of who Jacen simply is is bound up in the Jedi ideal, which is one reason he's so personally tied to the question of what the Jedi's true role in the galaxy is.
Central to Jacen's constant internal philosophical debate is the relationship between Jedi, the Force, and violence. He actually hates violence, and sees dealing death as a last resort - though he doesn't begrudge the fact that his sister obviously feels differently. Whenever possible, he attempts to diffuse situations without resorting to hostilities. He goes as far as to hope for some solution to the Yuuzhan Vong invasion that will not involve their destruction. His reverence for life has caused him to completely forsake violence at some points in his life - though he's also been forced in various situations to confront the reality of the necessity of it as well.
It's also worth mentioning that when it comes to romance, Jacen is basically made of canned fail. His amazing pick up lines include: bad jokes involving banthas, 'hey bb, you didn't need that arm I just chopped off, did you?', and 'talk xenobiology to me'.
Background: Wookieepedia page. I'm taking him from late in the New Jedi Order series, specifically post Destiny's Way. It's a nice transitory canon point, since it's before Jacen embarks on his quest for Zonoma Seket, but after his reunion with his sister and family who previously thought he was dead. He's still dealing with the aftermath of his huge spiritual and Force-related revelations on former-Coruscant and so he's just really nice and screwed up and looking to decide on a direction with his new life now. He's also very newly a Jedi Knight, so it's like he just leveled up. 8D Ideal new game fodder.
Special Abilities or Weapons: Jacen Solo is one bad ass mother f*cka. Except for the times where he decides violence is bad mmkay and stops fighting. So... every other Tuesday. Luckily, he recently attended the Vergere Private Academy of Hideously Scarring Torture and Insane Force Techniques and graduated with full honors by singlehandedly massacring a shit ton of Vong in what may be the Single Coolest Fucking Scene You Have Ever Seen. Initially unarmed. He basically makes the Vong Head Honchos sit back and go dayuuum son.
His previously candyass power of Talking to the Animals recently pokevolved into the ability to turn the Vong's organic weaponry against them. In other words, don't underestimate Doctor Doolittle, for he will fuck your shit up.
Jacen has trained from a young age to Be a Badass Someday, taking up study as a Jedi Apprentice under his happening uncle Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Maybe you've heard of him.
The most powerful of his Force techniques is definitely the Soulful Solo Stare. Inherited from both of his parents, the twins possess an unusually strong version of this that will turn the hardest hearts to wibbles. It has also been known to Win Most Arguments. Most jackass Imperials are immune to his power.
Jacen is also reallyterrible great at making up painfully bad hilariouuuuus jokes.
Laugh. :|
Examples of Jacen's badass Jedi powaz:
- His Heart powers are not limited to gizka and womprats and crystal snakes. He can also strongly influence the minds and emotions of people and understand their feelings.
- He also has VongSense just... because he's awesome. Or because of his feeling skills + that whole slave seed thing Vergere stuck inside him. Whatever.
- He has super mondo cool healing abilities.
- He's one of the best lightsaber duelists evaaaaah. Only Luke and his sister can kick his ass.
- COOL FORCE BARRIERS. SUPA AWESOME FOXTROT FORCE JUMPS. STUN LIGHTNING (IT'S NOT EVIL: IT'S GREEN! 8D)
- And a lot of other miscellaneous shit.

First Person:
This is Jacen Solo.
[There's an air of caution in the posture of the young man on the screen. He appears to be in his late teens, but there's an older depth of wisdom in his gaze. Either way, he speaks with a deliberate calm, levelly, as if uncertain who or what he's addressing. Or whose side they're on, for that matter.]
I'm looking to contact any members of the Jedi Order in the area. As well as whoever's behind bringing us here.
[A moment of hesitation follows, and his eyes flash downward, as if coming to a decision.]
And any information on the current state of things with the Yuuzhan Vong would be... appreciated.
[It's obvious he has a lot more to say, but after a moment he reaches out and switches off the feed.]
Third Person:
"One more time," Jacen implored quietly. His voice sounded remarkably distant, flat and hollow. His throat immediately parched, and he swallowed thickly against the effort of those few words.
"Coruscant, sir," chirped the droid beside him, obliging and oblivious to the way that word hit him like a gaffi stick to the back of the head.
His eyes remained entranced by the view outside, and he stepped closer to the transparisteel pane, raising a hand to press against it, as if he might be able to confirm it wasn't just a view screen.
That what he was looking at was real.
Chastising himself for not doing this immediately, Jacen stretched out with his senses, feeling the teeming life all around him. Not the alien, twisted life of a Vong-formed world, but that of a vital society.
While there was a definite smoothness and elegance to the design of most of the buildings rearing up across the panorama like a metallic forest that was enough to convince Jacen that this was not his Coruscant, there was still an undeniable familiarity to it all. The air seemed to pulse with the resonating heart of civilization, politics, urban planetary life itself.
However, whenever, whenever, there was no denying it.
Coruscant stood.
Impossibly, she stood.
Images burned into his mind began flickering in and out across the sprawling cityscape.
Buildings crumbling under the grasp of yorik coral.
The Well of the World Brain wrapped around the remains of the Galactic Senate.
A world irreversibly transformed.
Jacen's forehead hit the glass with a soft thunk, as he leaned against the window, his knees feeling particularly weak beneath him.
Home, he thought, and that one word rang like a bell through his sorrow, struck him a breath of air to a spaced pilot on his last reserves of oxygen.
"Sir," interrupted the droid, shifting somewhat awkwardly in place, "are you quite alright?"
"Yes," he said, never tearing his eyes off from the window, "That will be all for now."
"Very well, sir." With a whirring of servomotors, the droid clanked its way to the door.
Jacen straightened up, finally forcing himself to take several calming breaths.
Answers didn't lay in staring out over the city all day.
The answers were out there, waiting for him to act.
And for once, he was more than willing to shelve the contemplation for later.
Anything Else: If a certain off and on love interest of his shows up, he uhhhhhhhh
